Test of remote blogging

Here is a test. Will I be able to add to my blog remotely? I have a desktop at home and my trusty BlackBerry on the run. I wish I had a netbook or notebook (or even a tablet!) But I don't. So, this will have to do. And for a test, here's a pic of my Dad when he was in high school.

Freddy's was a bust

I was not expecting to really shop for electronics at Freddy's today. That was a lie. However I did try to post new update to my blog using Blogger's email function.  I had not set this up on my desktop at home, so was trying to do it all from the BlackBerry.  Didn't work out.
But, I think I have it set up correctly now.  Wait for another test later.

I expect I will get advice on blogging, if anyone reads it.  That's okay.  I hope you won't be hurt if I ignore your advice.  For now, this is a work in progress and will likely be terribly painful for future me to read.  That is, hoping that my blogging continues and improves.

The one thing that will happen for sure is....change.  For instance. When I first tapped into Twitter, I started following @wilw (Wil Wheaton).  Partly based on a recommendation from someone, but also since I enjoyed ST:TNG.  Well, at first I was swept up by the frequency, the fun, and nerd content of his posts.  Then came NHL Hockey season.  Man, @wilw is passionate about his LA Kings.  Not that I don't like passion, or hockey.  I played hockey as a young man growing up in Minnesota.  But it just seemed like we went from the funny, humorous, geeky @wilw to "Evil Wil" in a split second.  It was like being in a party when your friend starts spewing venomous hate about his ex-girlfriend.  It may be justified.  But I still start drifting toward the nearest exit.  The party isn't fun anymore.  I started souring on following @wilw.  Not just for his postings on the LA Kings, but for some nasty comments on Cold Play.  I listen to a lot of Cold Play in part because it reminds me of my son, who really likes their music.  I don't worship them, but I don't mind having some of their songs on my playlist either.  I just remember when @wilw mentioned something like, "then they had the nerve to be playing Cold Play, fuck that!" or something that felt like that.  I would rather not share my opinions in a negative way, or at least not be specific about it.  I mean, saying that he got on the elevator and there was some insipid, over-played pop song that he had to listen to for 23 floors is how I would put it.  Or try.
Well, I got over that.  Hey, even @wilw is entitled to an opinion.  And what a boring world this would be if everyone just agreed with me, or did things the same way I try to.  Later, after seeing @wilw at Emerald City ComiCon 2011, I decided that there really was a heck of a lot of good in the @wilw fella.  And if he sometimes spews stuff I disagree with, I might just spew back. Or leave it alone and back out of the room.  But I will still follow him on Twitter, just the same.

Okay, so maybe not a daily thing....

Hang on, gentle reader! I might have a bumpy ride for you. Dear Blogger, it has been.... a long time since my last posting.
I do not anticipate a large readership. 2 things come to mind: 1. The t-shirt which reads, "more people have read my t-shirt than your blog". and 2. Blog like no-one is reading...

I was re-inspired to start blogging again by 2 recent events. First, I was selected to participate in a NASA Tweetup, #JPLTweetup 2011. Given the opportunity to visit space exploration ground zero, I had to accept. Since I will be meeting up with other Tweeps (thus, Tweetup, duh) I decided they should have an opportunity to see who they are really going to meet. (I warned ya!) The second reason? Attending an event to watch a video about Vincent Chen. Aptly named, "Vincent Who?", this movie explained who he was and why his death became a rallying point for the Asian-American community, the immigrant communities, the under represented in the USA, and ultimately for every human who is, well .... human. He was a Chinese man, celebrating his upcoming wedding like many other american men, at a bar... when 2 out of work US auto workers decided he was Japanese and therefore the cause of all their woes. They followed him out of the bar and beat him without mercy. Vincent Chin lapsed into a coma and subsequently died. Listening to his story, then hearing the panelists call for action to any and all communities, led me to think... about blogging. How? Well, one thing they said is you have to "know your story" and then "tell your story" so that others may learn from it. Now, I am the opposite of the under represented in this country. In fact, I am probably the poster boy for the bland, male, white, suburban born/raised, middle class american. At least so far as my demographics are concerned. However, I feel I have had a unique experience with my life (doesn't every blogger?) and may be able to share (and who knows, maybe educate) some of my same demographic.
So, I blog.
If you bothered to read this far, congratulations. Here is an "easter-egg" for you. Fred Meyer has a great sale on electronics this week. Check it out.
Okay, that was lame. Your reward will be in finding out about another person's experiences, feelings, foibles, failures, successes, insights, blind spots....me.
Hang on, there's more. But right now, I need to drag myself away from this thing, drag my wife away from her computer, and go outside for a walk. Even if it is raining. We're gonna check out electronics at Fred Meyer.
